Instructions on how to submit projects to be included in the official program of the Milano Design Week 2025 through the Brera Design District collective organizer.
Premise
The goal of this page is to guide companies wishing to participate in the Milano Design Week 2025 through the Brera Design District collective organizer.
The Municipality of Milan publishes an annual notice to select initiatives to be included in the official program of the Milano Design Week.
The Public Notice for participation in the Milano Design Week 2025 was published on the official Municipality of Milan website on December 9, 2024.
Public and private entities who wish to carry out public-interest design-related projects and initiatives during the week of April 7–13, 2025 (such as exhibitions, shows, art installations, workshops, lab activities, meetings, debates, in-depth studies, information and awareness-raising activities, networking, etc.) can respond to the notice.
Interested parties can apply individually or through “collective organizers” who act on behalf of multiple operators.
Selected projects included in the program will receive authorization from the Municipality to use the official Milano Design Week logo, visibility through the Municipality’s communication channels, and financial benefits for the occupancy of public spaces and advertising fees.
After approval by the Municipality of Milan, applicants must obtain all necessary permits, licenses, authorizations, and approvals, including those related to public space occupancy, issued by the relevant municipal offices and/or other concerned entities.
IMPORTANT NOTE: In high-concentration event areas like Brera, no authorizations will be granted for events or initiatives on public spaces outside those selected through the Municipality of Milan’s call and included in the official program.
The Role of Studiolabo
Studiolabo, the creator and coordinator of the Brera Design District project, facilitates the submission of projects through the following activities:
- Assist in selecting available areas in the district for initiatives.
- Collect all projects from participants in the Brera Design Week 2025 network.
- Submit a single collective application for all participating projects.
It is recommended to inform Studiolabo as soon as possible of your interest in participating by sharing the project setup and the chosen area, allowing Studiolabo to assess and coordinate the request based on the different initiatives collected.
Once assessed by Studiolabo, the areas of interest will be reserved but not optioned. The final evaluation rests with the Municipality of Milan, which may allocate the same areas to other activities that have made direct applications responding to the Public Notice autonomously.
Participation Process
- Completion by the applicant (client/promoter) or a representative of the 2025 registration form and, if required, a delegation letter for external professional involvement to complete the documentation for submission to the SUEV (Sportello Unico Eventi) after obtaining approval from the Municipality of Milan.
- Submission of all content listed in point 1 (necessary for presenting the activity) to the following email addresses: giulia@studiolabo.it and sofia@studiolabo.it, by the set deadlines (December 15, 2024 or January 15, 2025).
- Evaluation of the requests by the Municipality of Milan to issue the eligibility letter with any required specifications and related integrations for the applicants.
- Sending of the eligibility letter from the Municipality of Milan to the approved applicants.
- The applicant or the appointed representative can proceed with the application to the SUEV to obtain all necessary permits, licenses, authorizations, and approvals through the GeoPortal. Please note that the documentation must be submitted at least 30 days before the first planned occupation day, including the setup days.
Additional Information
Joining the Brera Design Week 2025 Communication Plan
Participation in the Public Notice through the collective application submitted by Studiolabo requires applicants to subscribe to one of the three communication packages offered by the Brera Design Week network, with confirmation and signed contract by January 10, 2025.
To proceed with registration, completion, and confirmation of the communication package, visit the website www.breradesignweek.it/adesioni.
Project Content for the Public Notice
The content (projects, setups, volumes, and graphics) presented by applicants during the first evaluation phase of the Public Notice must be identical to the final submission to the SUEV.
Any changes must be promptly communicated to Studiolabo for immediate evaluation to ensure the feasibility of their implementation.
Public Space Occupation Cost Simulation
The Municipality of Milan provides a tool for calculating the public space occupation fee (Cosap), available at the following link Municipality tool.
Benefits on the Single Property Fee
During the event days (April 7–13, 2025), the most favorable reductions available under the Single Property Fee Regulation will apply.
For all public space occupations, a multiplier coefficient of 0.50 will apply, unless a lower coefficient or an exemption is already provided under Article 31 of the current regulation.
Reductions will also apply to the dissemination of public advertising messages for public notices, as per Articles 30, paragraphs 14 and 15 of the Single Property Fee Regulation. The fees will be halved, provided they meet the requirements specified in paragraph 15 of the regulation, unless there are different assessments related to the presence of commercial brands. Additionally, any additional fees related to the SUEV request will apply.
Additional charges related to the application to the SUEV
The Single Event Desk (SUEV) allows the organization of cultural, musical, sports, or other events in public or private spaces within the city of Milan, and to initiate all the necessary procedures (authorizations, permits, etc.) for the event to take place, such as the temporary concession for public land occupancy.
We would like to specify that starting the application process incurs additional costs, which are the responsibility of the applicant:
- Application processing costs for the SUEV application (stamp duty €32, administrative fees €61.50)
- Cost of personnel handling the application (if the process is managed by a third party on behalf of the client)
- Any permits related to the application (advertising, loading and unloading, etc.)
- Any costs for loading and unloading (rental of signs, permits from the police, etc.)
- Possible SIAE fees or permits for public entertainment and/or food and beverage service
- Possible costs for security or overnight guarding
- A2A utility connections
In addition, if the intervention of a specialist is required, the cost of the personnel responsible for handling the application (if the application is managed by third parties on behalf of the client) must also be considered.
